The 4-Step Flearning Framework
A practical model to guide individuals and organisations through the flearning process:
Step 1. Fail
• Acknowledge what didn’t work — without denial or defensiveness.
• Accept that failure is a natural part of progress.
• Create psychological safety to admit errors.
Step 2. Reflect
• Ask reflective questions:
o What happened?
o Why did it happen?
o What assumptions proved wrong?
o How did my actions contribute?
• Encourage open dialogue and collective sense-making.
Step 3. Learn
• Extract lessons and insights.
• Identify what new knowledge, skill or behaviour has emerged.
• Link insights to goals, systems or processes.
Step 4. Adapt
• Apply the lessons in the next iteration or project.
• Experiment again, using improved understanding.
• Share learning across teams — make flearning part of the culture.
